Welcome to convinceme. Many of the regulars here will take any approach and opportunity to negatively criticize and belittle you, your stance, or your debate topics.
Just giving you a heads up. It takes a while to become one of "them."

Hahahaha ... I almost fell over from that one. I didn't fall over though because yo Momma is so big that she be omnipresent and I ended up just bouncing off of her and right back up onto my feet. SNAP! *thoughtprocess does a little jig*

Yes it is wrong, the reason being is the fact that this country is so pivotal on social opinion. There is always an absolute answer and sadly we can never get passed that.
Or at least that is my opinion on politcal forums or campaining. As long as we remain civil on this site i don't mind debating it.

I don't see how a debate can me "dumb". I'm merely wishing to see people's opinions on the matter. It's in fact a question of morals. Sensitive debates can upset people tremendously, which can lead to numerous negative things. And I also wanted to test to see how creating a debate worked. =P

How is one to know just how sensitive a topic it is for certain people, is the question...
Some people may wish to debate about a topic as a method of self-affirmation, to reach a state of clarity, or catharthsis. I think the key to debate is to allow for others opinions, and to be civil. Otherwise, it is not a debate, but a bashing.
P.S. Frankie...perhaps it was a good thing that you couldn't think of something else to say, eh?

I think it's important that one's views get challenged.
I don't think that all venues are necessarily appropriate for such a debate, nor do I think that all debates are destined to be constructive, positive experience.
On this site, in particular, there is a certain fixation on both homosexuality and religion that manifests less as "debate" and more as "affirmation".

Not only do I believe it's not wrong to debate about sensitive subjects, I think it's great! I love to debate about sensitive subjects such as homosexuality, the middle east, religion etc, but I believe the MOST important subject that has ever been discussed here is Thoughtprocess' momma. I mean really. Rationalist, one of the most important things you will learn on this site is that people's momma's are a huge issue (especially Thoughtprocess' momma, because she's huge). If it was wrong to talk about his momma, then I wouldn't want to be right. In short, debating about sensitive topics isn't wrong, it's necessary. Snip snappety snap son! ;o)

It may be allittle offensive or rude to some groups, but not wrong in the least.
The reason debating sensitive topics is perceived as "wrong" in society is simply because the people that are sensitive are people that deal in absolutes. They're close-minded and any information, factual or otherwise, that is given to them opposing their view irritates and bothers them so much that they shut down any possibility for open discussion.
Politics and Religion fall in this category with most people as sensitive because they have already made up their mind on what they're going to believe.
I like to think of myself as open minded so I am not bothered by these subject nor any other. I think it's healthy to debate. Civil and open debate brings about education and awareness - often to both sides of the argument.
Progression is a result of people becoming better educated and narrow views abolished during constructive debates on topics society deem as sensitive.

well first off it is a thin line to some people what is sensitive topics in the case of the example homosexuality I beleieve should not even be counted as a debate topic for people becuase there is nothing wrong with people choices in life or who people are. I also think that in some cases sensitive topics would need discusion in debates even if some people do not agree.

really people its a debate sight!!!! what kind of fun would it be if there were no sensative topics!!! we cant talk about ninjas all day!
definately not wrong to debate about sensitive topics. They only became sensitive because they were put under the rug. When brought out into the open, a clearer understanding is brought about and even realization that it isn't bad

Personally I think that debating "sensitive" topics is healthy. It encourages an open-minded, well-educated and moral society - what's not to like?! Any reasoned debate is good (and often productive) I think, but one has to be careful to debate (aka. be reasonable, logical, accepting of others' views etc.) and not to insult (revert to ad hominem arguments, mock people who don't think like you, present biased and offensive claims).
Basically if it's a decent debate, it's okay!
